Formal Conversations for the Contract Net Protocol

چکیده
In this paper we present a fairly complex example of how the social model for agent conversations based on social commitments we have developed in the past formally supports the implementation of conversations for the Contract Net Protocol.

Verifying the Contract Net Protocol: A Case Study in Interaction Protocol and Agent Communication Language Semantics
Multi-agent conversations are built upon two components: agent communication languages (ACLs) that specify the individual messages that can be exchanged and interaction protocols (IPs) that specify the sequences in which these message can be arranged. Although informative, the semantic definition proposed for the most standard ACL (FIPA 1997) is complicated and contentious, while published IPs ...
متن کاملFormalising the Contract Net as a Goal-Directed System
In response to the problems that have arisen regarding the terminology and concepts of agent-oriented systems, previous work has described a formal framework for understanding agency and autonomy. In this paper we outline the framework and re ne it by adding further levels of detail to develop a formal model of the Contract Net Protocol. The model serves to make precise both the operations of n...
متن کاملTo Commit or Not to Commit: Modeling Agent Conversations for Action
Conversations are sequences of messages exchanged among interacting agents. For conversations to be meaningful, agents ought to follow commonly known specifications limiting the types of messages that can be exchanged at any point in the conversation. These specifications are usually implemented using conversation policies (which are rules of inference) or conversation protocols (which are pred...
متن کاملFormal Modeling of Temporal Interaction Aspects in Multi-Agent Systems
Multi-agent interaction protocols play a crucial role in multi-agent systems (MAS) development. They are used to manage and to control interactions among several autonomous agents in a MAS. Their formal specification, as well as their verification, constitute an essential task for the design of MAS applications. Several approaches have been proposed to formally represent agent interaction proto...
متن کاملFormal Semantics for AUML Agent Interaction Protocol Diagrams
In this paper we introduce an approach for defining semantics for AUML agent interaction protocol diagrams using Petri net code structures. This approach is based on the usage of net components which provide basic tasks and the structure for Petri Nets. Agent interaction protocol diagrams are used to model agent conversations on an abstract level. By mapping elements of the diagrams to net comp...
